I can apply my techniques and creative ideas to almost any subject matter or request. Some clients give me complete artistic freedom, while others collaborate closely with me to blend their vision with mine. There are many ways we can approach your project—depending on your wishes and the ideas I can bring to the table.
Portraits tend to turn out best when done from life. That doesn’t mean you’ll need to sit for long hours! I usually start with some preparatory sketches and take a few photos while we chat and get to know each other. This helps bring the portrait to life, making it more unique and animated—capturing multiple sides of who you are.
This painting is a good example of a commission where I was given full artistic freedom.
As always, I included elements that reflect and hold meaning for the people involved. The piece was commissioned by a Danish actress as a gift to her husband, who wanted a portrait that included his wife, such a central part of his life.
Because her husband is very fond of the sea, I made her dress resemble the ocean, and incorporated his favorite fish into a decorative, Egyptian-inspired pattern. The geometric Greek motif in the background is a nod to the origins of theater, which links to their shared profession. The color green on his shirt is his favorite. The door was a trick to create depth in the painting and comes from their own home, opening up to the garden outside. I added the curtains, which, surprisingly, reminded him of his childhood home, creating a sense of nostalgia and connection.
The price of any commision depends upon size, support, tecnique, content and the complexity of the subject matter. So prices are higly suggestive and indicate a minimum price (in Euro’s)
